red: your arrogance and lack of respect for the higher belts and bjj customs is funny. we need some brazilians to come in--try refusing to get out of the way and see how it goes over. running and asking the teacher might not come in handy then.

We do need some brazilians to come in because all the higher belts that I've met at the academy are a bunch of wusses. Not to mention most of them are dorks, too. I will roll with whomever I want and I will not get out of the way if someone rolls all the way across the mat to MY area. Maybe I'll just go where real men train and don't complain about ridiculous, antiquated rules: www.legendsmma.com/

Thank you, Master Shidoshi. Although I don't have a crazy mohawk like that guy the comparison is flattering. He is pretty ruthless just like me. Once again, I appreciate it.

Maybe I'll just go where real men train and don't complain about ridiculous, antiquated rules: www.legendsmma.com/As the creator of this thread, I feel I should respond. Most martial arts come from an Asian background, are STEEPED in tradition, and are based on respect. True BJJ tends to be less traditional in many ways, but there are still basic laws of respect and etiquette that continue to be adhered to. I won't go over every detail, because I already did this - probably before you even showed up at HBJJ, Red. As has been stated, if you don't feel like rolling, don't. Sit back and catch your breath, and then go home. But H.E.L.L. yes, get out of the way when the higher belts are rolling. You will earn that same respect as you move up in rank. If you don't care about that, then you really shouldn't care whether you ever get a higher belt, because tradition means nothing to you. However, as I said, martial arts have their roots in tradition. If you cannot respect that, maybe something like tennis would be more suited to you. Look, I have no problem with you as a person. I like you, although I do not know you very well. You are of course entitled to your opinion and I respect that, just as I am entitled to mine, which is that your post was disrespectful. That said, if you choose to run away to Legends, I will not cry.

Redenstein,
forget these guys and join my academy! You won't have a problem with higher belts rolling into your space because I am the only higher belt at my school and I never ever roll.
Also I can teach you 101 submissions and will introduce you to something called BC BUD.

red was partially joking but I have had many discussions with him how he thinks a lot of those tradtions are antiquated and should no longer apply. I tried to explain these are not the school's rules, rules and traditions are different. It's just something that's been passed down from traditional martial arts. I am sure when our own instructors were coming up, their instructors never enforced all these rules or even mentioned them. It was just understood by the students by watching the higher belts.
