Hey Guys. The good news is that I'm back now. The bad news is that after two days of training, I've come down with ringworm. I was at Open Mat Friday night and this Saturday. Given how it's progressed on my arm, I'd say I got on Friday. There were only a few of us there, so those of you please check yourselves. I'll see you on the mats when this clears.

Hey man, that is a huge bummer. I was out for a month because it was on my face and I couldn't tape it up. when I came back, I was surprised at how many people told me they had it. I have no idea why the mats have been infested lately, but it seems like it's turning into a big problem.
If anybody has any suggestions on prevent the spread or treating it...might as well post them here.
I'll start, Big Barry recommends Lamasil because it's the newest so the ringworm hasn't developed a resistance to it yet (although he says he personally uses Lotromin) I would listen, cause he's a pharmacist.
I'll say that from experience, anything containing "undelic acid" as an active ingredient doesn't work. Barry actually told me that it doesn't work to well anymore because it is one of the oldest anti fungals and ringworm has developed a good resistance to it.
anyway, if anybody has anything else, put it.

That sucks Jon!
It's been barely 24 hours and you have the worm?
As far as memory serves me, it was you, Danny V, Jon Evans, Ben Parry and SPF there on Friday.
Like you said I'll be on the lookout.

Yup, I was there too but fortunately no ringworm yet. Pretty much as a rule of thumb I always have a huge tube of lamasil, and everytime I'm done showering(yes, everytime!) I do a quick check on my body for red bumps or itchy spots; if I find one, I immediately apply lamasil and continue to do so for however many days until the bump in question is gone. I know this means that I'm using lamasil on mosquito bites a lot, but a big tube costs 15 bucks and has lasted more than 6 months of pretty constant use(and counting), so it's really not that big of a deal. Thanks for the heads up peeps, and sorry that you got it, Jon.

That sucks Jon. I went to Trader Joe's and got Tea Tree Oil body wash. Supposedly tea tree oil is fungicidal. I shower with it after practice without fail. So far I've been lucky.

I typically wash my greek-warrior-like body with Selsun Blue Medicated Formula every day after I train. It nips that crap in the bud. Preventative maintenance my friends.....

No worries guys. I've had it before (I've gotten it a couple of times after tournaments, grrrr) and I started treating it early. I should be back soon. Keep an eye out for yourselves.

Ugh. There are additional tips on the previous thread "Issues in fungus". But just so everyone knows, showering with anti-dandruff shampoo immediately after training is a good idea and works, but if you do it daily it becomes less effective after awhile and you will actually become MORE susceptible to it. Try alternating with tea tree oil cleanser.

I use that stuff every time and I've never had ringworm or any other kind of fungus. Now I'll probably get it tomorrow just for writing that.
